What is Google BigQuery?! A Cheat Sheet.
One of my early “Data Mentors” was Bill Baker, GM of Data Analytics at Microsoft. Bill used to have a sticker on his car that said “My Other House is a Datawarehouse”.
I don’t know if he’d heard that from Michael Stonebraker, one of the most influential inventors in the database world, and a hero of mine (he’s at the origin of Ingres, Vertica, VoltDB…etc). Nonetheless, I thought the one liner was catchy and very telling of our times: most of the stuff that defines us is indeed in a house, a datawarehouse.
There is surely a lot to learn in the world of datawarehousing. Since I joined Google, many of you have asked me to help them ‘drill-into’ the topic (pun intended) so I’m using here the “Take 5” formula, where I highlight 5 resources you should know about a technology.
In this post, we’ll on Google BigQuery. I know that the “Take 5” process will have its limits, which is why I’ve already created an “Extras” section at the bottom of this post where I share more related resources as I come across them.
Let me know what you think about the content, the formula and the process.
- What am I missing?
- What else do you want to hear about?
This post is for both of us so let’s make it better as we go along. And now, without further ado, let’s now drill down!
